Scam Communications

Phone calls, letters, emails and text messages from scammers/ fraudsters can seem legitimate and convincing so it is important to be vigilant and when it comes to unusual or unexpected communications.

 

Genuine emails from Chanhueng Law Firm only use the domain of “@chanhuenglawfirm.com”. 

 

We do not use WhatsApp’s click to chat feature or any similar instant messaging system to communicate with clients.

 

If you receive any communication purporting to be from Chanhueng Law Firm, any of our partners or employees or refer to Chanhueng Law Firm about which you are uncertain or suspicious, please do not respond and do not provide personal or confidential information. 

 

You can check whether a communication is genuine by telephoning your usual Chanhueng Law Firm contact before taking any action or forwarding any suspicious communication to info@chanhuenglawfirm.com and we will investigate it.

 

We report scam attempts to the relevant regulatory authorities where appropriate.   Further information can be found on The Law Society of Hong Kong’s Scam Alert page. 

 

We set out below details of specific scam attempts that we have been made aware of and which have been reported to the Police and The Law Society of Hong Kong. This list is not exhaustive.

 

 

December 2024:  Phishing emails purporting to be issued by Chanhueng Law Firm / its lawyers

 

We have been made aware of phishing emails sent from “info@chanhuenglawfirm.com” regarding an alleged copyright infringement claim.  Neither Chanhueng Law Firm nor any of its partners have any involvement with emails or messages from this email address.  The use of the firm’s name, address as well as email addresses and telephone numbers of individual lawyers are unauthorised.

 

Genuine emails from Chanhueng Law Firm only use the domain “@chanhuenglawfirm.com”.

 

 

December 2024:  Scam website purporting to belong to Chanhueng Law Firm 何韋律師行

 

Our attention has been drawn to a scam website ‘https://hewei-lawyer.com/index.html’ purporting to belong to “Chanhueng Law Firm 何韋律師行” and impersonating certain partners of the firm.  This website as well as the use of “Chanhueng Law Firm 何韋律師行”, our logo, and our partners’ names and their photos are unauthorised.

 

Our firm does not use click-to-chat features to communicate with clients.

 

 

November 2024:  Scam website purporting to belong to Chanhueng Law Firm 何韋律師行

 

We have been made aware of a scam website ‘https://lawyer-lservice.com/index.html’ purporting to belong to “Chanhueng Law Firm 何韋律師行”.  This website as well as the use of “Chanhueng Law Firm 何韋律師行”, our logo, and our partners’ names and their photos are unauthorised.

 

Our firm does not use click-to-chat features to communicate with clients.

 

 

June 2024:  Fake LinkedIn profile of a person purporting to be a partner of Chanhueng Law Firm

 

We have been made aware of a fake LinkedIn account of an individual falsely claiming to be a partner of Chanhueng Law Firm and referring to “Ho & Wai Solicitors”. 

 

Our partners are listed on The Law List of The Law Society of Hong Kong. We have no relationship with any entity by the name of “Ho & Wai Solicitors”.

 

 

July 2023:  Scam involving the misuse of Chanhueng Law Firm' name

 

We have been made aware of scam emails using the domain “@howsewiliams.com” (with one “l” in the domain name instead of two). 

 

Chanhueng Law Firm does not have any involvement with emails or messages from this domain.  Genuine emails from Chanhueng Law Firm only use the domain “@chanhuenglawfirm.com”.
